Microneedling
MICRONEEDLING PRE-PROCEDURE
- No direct sun exposure for 2-4 weeks before treatment
- Prep with a pigment inhibitor (such as ZO Brightalive) for 1-2 weeks before treatment to prevent post inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
- Avoid treatment if using photosensitizing medications.
- Stop active skin care products for 3-5 days before treatment: Hydroquinone, retinoids (tretinoin, Retin-A, retinol, Differin, Adapalene, Renova), AHAs (glycolic, lactic acid), BHAs (salicylic), Benzoyl Peroxide, Hydroxyl Acid, etc.
- Avoid products that can make your blood thinner (increase risk for brusing!) for 5 days before treatment (unless ordered by Dr.) Ex: Ibuprofen, Advil, Aleve, Aspirin, cold medicine, Vitamin E, Omega-3, flaxseed, almonds, alcohol, etc.
- If you have recently received any of the following treatments, wait 2-4 weeks before you get a microneedling treatment: Chemical peel wait 2-4 weeks, Facial dermal fillers &/or Botox/Dysport wait 2 weeks, lasers and IPL/BBL wait 2-4 weeks, consult with laser specialist on recommmendations.
- Avoid caffeine on the day of treatment (can make skin more sensitive).
- Avoid working out on day of treatment if possible (increases chance of swelling after treatment.
- Please arrive to your appointment with a clean face.
MICRONEEDLING POST-PROCEDURE
- Do not put anything on the skin 18-24 hours post microneedling treatment.
- After 24 hours, it is recommended to hydrate/moisturize 3-4x a day
- After 24 hours, wear a mineral-based SPF 30+ with UVA/UVB protection (avoid chemical sunscreens) and reapply every 2 hours if in direct sunlight.
- After 24 hours, keep a very hydrating and gentle routine for at least 5-7 days.
- Gradually add back your regular skincare routine 5-7 days post treatment (unless skin feels irritated).
- Avoid strenuous exercise, sweating, or activities that heat up the skin for 72 hours Hot showers/baths, saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, hot yoga, etc.
- Do not wear any makeup 48-72 hours post microneedling
- Avoid rubbing, itching, and picking, and touching skin while healing
- Avoid any potentially irritating products for 1 week: products with fragrance, AHA’s (glycolic, lactic acids), BHA’s (salicylic acid), retinoids (tretinoin, Retin-A, adapalene, retinol, retinal), Vitamin C, Hydroquinone, Benzoyl Peroxide, and any other active skin care products.
- Do not scrub the skin (scrubs, washcloth,facial cleansing brush,etc.) for 2 weeks
- Do not spray tan for 2 weeks post treatment
- Avoid the following treatments for 2 weeks: Waxing, Botox/Dysport, facial Fillers, IPL or lasers, dermaplaning, chemical peels, facials (Gentle, hydrating facial OK after 1 week).
- No direct sun exposure for 4-6 weeks. Seek shade and wear a hat during this time :)
