PRE

  • Avoid topical agents that increase skin sensitivity like retinoids, topical antibiotics, exfoliants, acids (AHAs, BHAs, salicylic acid), hydroquinone, benzoyl peroxide, and exfoliating masks for at least 3 days before your treatment. These can make your skin more prone to irritation.
  • Do not take anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen, Motrin, or Advil for 3 days prior. Inflammation is key to your skin’s natural healing and rejuvenation process, so we want it to do its job. Also these medications can increase risk of bleeding/bruising.
  • Avoid IPL/laser treatments, sunburns, and unprotected sun exposure for 2 weeks before your appointment to ensure your skin is ready and healthy.
  • No waxing, depilatory creams, or electrolysis on the treatment area for 5-7 days before your session. Also, do not shave the day of your treatment to prevent irritation.
  • If you are prone to cold sores, start an antiviral medication 2 days before and continue on the day of treatment. We can provide a prescription if needed.

POST

  • Keep it gentle: Use mild, hydrating cleansers and moisturizers.
  • Avoid any products with retinol, vitamin C, AHAs, BHAs, exfoliants, or other strong actives for at least 5-7 days to give your skin time to heal.
  • Sun protection is a must: Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen every day and avoid direct sun exposure as much as possible to protect your skin while it’s sensitive.
  • Expect some redness and mild swelling: This is normal and usually fades within 24-72 hours.
  • Hands off! Don’t pick, scratch, or exfoliate your skin while it’s healing to avoid irritation or infection.
  • Skip heavy makeup, sweating, saunas, hot tubs, and intense workouts for at least 48 hours to keep your skin calm and happy.
  • No direct sun exposure for 4-6 weeks. Seek shade, use sunscreen (reapply every 2 hours with direct exposure) and wear a hat during this time.
